Since Graham Platner’s Senate campaign imploded earlier this month, our feeds have been clogged with autopsies of what, precisely, went wrong—most of which are longer than the simple two-word answer I myself would give (“Nazi tattoo”). But few armchair coroners are as perceptive as Maria Comella, a campaign consultant who has a great piece in VF today about the real problem: “a wayward consultant class that will back anyone to win because winning achieves personal ambitions for power and money.” (A political operative who dings other political operatives? Call her the Dexter Morgan of DC.) Read on for both insight and zingers, including this personal favorite: “Operatives pushed a candidate under the guise of authenticity. They learned that Platner is indeed authentic: authentically terrible on multiple counts.”
Elsewhere, Prince George is officially a teenager, a fact so shocking I have to take the rest of the day off. More tomorrow!
