Improving Sidewalk Access For Safety
Starting July 27, Fairfax City crews will trim and remove all vegetation along public walkways that obstructs visibility and encroaches on public access.
The city maintains a four‑foot‑wide, eight‑foot‑high clearance to keep sidewalks accessible and reduce sightline issues.
Property owners are asked to ensure trees and shrubs do not obstruct sidewalks. Right‑of‑way maintenance runs through September. To report concerns and request services, please use Fairfax City Resolve.

Attend the City of Fairfax Band Children’s Concert, July 30
Come enjoy a concert arranged for children at 7:30 p.m. July 30 at the Sherwood Center. Music includes: Bluey's Guide to the Concert Band, Cartoon Symphony, MacArthur Park, Raider's March, Super Mario Brothers, The Mandalorian, and The Legend of Zelda - Symphony of the Goddesses: Overture.

Consent Agenda
- The city council appointed Douglas Skiba and George McAndrews to three-year terms on the Grievance Panel Board and appointed Thomas Davis to a five-year term with Historic Fairfax City, Inc.
Public Hearing Not Required
- Adopted a resolution requesting that the Fairfax Circuit Court order a special election to be held on Nov. 3, 2026, on the question of authorizing the City of Fairfax to levy a general retail sales tax at a rate not to exceed 1%, with revenues to be used solely for capital projects for schools and/or public transportation purposes, in accordance with Virginia Code 58.1-605.1.
Work Session
- Discussed the second draft of amendments to the City of Fairfax Zoning Ordinance related to adopted Small Area Plans. View the slide deck.

Planning Commission Meeting, July 27
The City of Fairfax Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. on July 27. The agenda includes a public hearing on the Highlands at Mantua proposal, and work session discussions about pre-applications for the Northfax Concept Phase Four and the Mosby Building proposals. View the agenda.
Treasurer's Office Renews its Accreditation
The City of Fairfax Treasurer’s Office renewed its accreditation from the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia on July 1, 2026.
The Office Accreditation program is a voluntary professional certificate program that requires annual renewal and is overseen by the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia. Seventy-seven treasurer’s offices received accreditation this year.
While it is not required for any treasurer’s office to be accredited, receiving accreditation acknowledges that the office meets statewide best practices for performance in treasury management.
