Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania are now part of a multistate outbreak of the severe gastrointestinal illness cyclosporiasis, with nearly 2,000 cases confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The discovery doesn’t necessarily mean that cases are accelerating, but it provides a clearer picture of the record high number of cases this summer.
