Hello Garfield Families!

Happy Summer! As we reflect on the incredible accomplishments of the 2025–2026 school year, we wanted to take one final opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students, staff, and families. While summer is well underway, these accomplishments are certainly worth recognizing and celebrating together.  Along with the many personal goals our students and staff set and accomplished throughout the year, Garfield collectively made significant academic progress.

• According to Virginia's new accountability system, Garfield earned 85.9 out of 100 points, resulting in a tentative "On Track" status. Even more exciting, we surpassed our 2025 achievement rates in almost every measured category, including reading, mathematics, science, multilingual learner progress, and attendance.                                         
• While this recognition reflects strong performance on the Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments, we are equally proud of the steady growth demonstrated by our students in grades K–2 on the VALLSS, MAP, and i-Ready assessments. These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication, and partnership that make Garfield such a special place to learn and grow.                                                
• We are also thrilled to share that our students demonstrated meaningful growth on our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener, further highlighting the positive culture that defines Garfield. Students reported exceptionally strong Supportive Relationships (87%), indicating they feel connected to and supported by caring adults and peers. These results affirm what we experience every day—a welcoming, caring, and inclusive school community where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to learn.

We are incredibly proud of everything our Garfield Eagles accomplished this year. These results reflect not only academic growth but also the strength of a school community that believes in high expectations, meaningful relationships, and the success of every child. They are a reflection of what is possible when dedicated educators, supportive families, and hardworking students come together with a shared commitment to excellence.

As we plan and prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, we are filled with anticipation for all that lies ahead. We look forward to welcoming our Garfield Eagles back for another year of growth, learning, and opportunity as we continue building on the successes of this past year.

2026 - 2027 School Supply List

Every Garfield Eagle deserves to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed. To ensure that happens, Garfield Elementary will provide school supplies for any student who needs them. For families who enjoy shopping for back-to-school supplies or would like to purchase their child's classroom materials, the list below is offered as an optional guide. Whether you choose to purchase supplies or not, every student will have what they need for a successful school year. Class Placement Notification

We are planning for another amazing school year! As we prepare for a time filled with new opportunities, new friendships, and meaningful learning experiences, we know many families are eagerly awaiting teacher assignments.

By Tuesday, August 18, families will receive an individual email identifying their child(ren)'s teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. Teacher assignment emails will be sent to the email address provided during student registration. Please be sure to check your inbox (and spam/junk folder, if needed) that morning.
