Good afternoon. It’s Tuesday, August 4.

In today's newsletter:

  • Early voting began across Alaska this week ahead of the Aug. 18 primary election, but not without a few hiccups. To compare the candidates running for state and federal office, check out this voter guide.

  • The Alaska Division of Elections will not immediately restore over 3,000 voters to the state rolls, after it moved them to “inactive” status based on outdated information regarding their citizenship status.

  • The Anchorage Public Library's Mountain View branch remains closed indefinitely as municipal staff assess damage to the building after it was struck by two vehicles in a weekend traffic crash.

In the faint hours between the last MLB West Coast pitch and the earliest “SportsCenter” call time, a different realm of sport fills the programming void on major channels. Think bubblegum bubble blowing, Excel championships and cornhole. Late at night, when the sports get weird, these broadcasters will call whatever ESPN throws at them.

Anchorage weather

It's cloudy today with a high near 63 degrees, and rain is likely. Looking ahead, the forecast calls for a mix of rain and mostly cloudy skies through the end of the week, with daytime highs in the mid-60s and low 70s.

Here’s what else is making headlines in Alaska today.
