Hey Bob,

Quick reminder that Cuéntamelo, my new Spanish course, is open now, but only for another four days.

It teaches you to express yourself in Spanish like the intelligent adult you are, using an original mystery you read and then discuss out loud, live, twice a week.

Now, the question I get more than any other: is it the right level for me?

I could tell you it is written for B1 to B2 and leave you to work out what that means. Let me do something more useful instead.

In the story, Clara finds a hand drawn map inside her grandfather's watch. Written underneath it, in his handwriting, are three rules for crossing the mountains in winter.

Here they are, exactly as they appear on the page:

1. Nunca cruzar con nieve fuerte. Never cross in heavy snow.

2. Nunca caminar de noche. Never walk at night.

3. Nunca salir de la ruta marcada. Never leave the marked route.

You just read three lines of the Spanish this course is written in.

That is the level. No quiz, no self assessment, no guessing.

The chapters run about 500 words each, with controlled sentence structure and vocabulary that deliberately keeps coming back, so the words you meet in chapter one are waiting for you again in chapter four.

And here is something worth saying plainly, because it stops more people than it should.

You are not expected to understand every word.

There will be sentences you read twice and still only mostly get. That is not a defect and it is not you failing.

Reading for gist is a real skill, and this course teaches it deliberately. It is what lets you read a Spanish book with the dictionary shut, instead of stopping at every unknown word until you quietly give up.

If those three rules felt readable to you, you are exactly who this was built for.

“Olly's Spanish Conversations course is a treasure! It is fun, easy to follow and I have finally been able to break through the intermediate level plateau.”
