Microsoft prioritizes AI safety, human oversight over speed and power

Microsoft is taking a firm stance that the safety and control of AI should take precedence over the pursuit of ever-greater capabilities. The company's new code of conduct states that it is willing to compromise on ultimate autonomy or generality to maintain human oversight. AI chief Mustafa Suleyman emphasized that moving more slowly or adopting less efficient models is a necessary trade-off to avoid the dangers of uncontrollable AI, even if it means lagging behind industry competitors.
