Dear Kings Park Families,
September is Attendance Awareness Month! Regular attendance helps students learn, build relationships, and feel connected to school. Missing approximately two days each month can make it harder for students to keep up academically.
Families can support regular attendance by establishing bedtime and morning routines, preparing clothes and backpacks the night before, making backup transportation plans, and scheduling appointments and trips outside of school hours when possible. If your child feels anxious about coming to school or your family needs support, we are here to help! All Kings Park staff members are committed to working with families to address attendance concerns. Some key players are:

September 15th Attendance Check-In (K-3)
KP’s 2026-2027 Attendance Goal:
6.5% chronic absenteeism or less
- Percentage of students not currently chronically absent: 93.2%
- Percentage of students currently chronically absent (missed 10% or more of the school days so far this year): 6.8%

doctors' appointments and vacations.
 Kings Park’s Back to School Night will be held this Thursday, September 17th, from 5:30pm-7:00pm. There will be three, 25-minute sessions. At each session families can choose to visit a homeroom teacher or specialist. Please see yesterday’s Back to School Night News You Choose for full details.
Kings Park’s Back to School Night
Thursday, September 17th
- Session 1: 5:30pm-5:55pm
- Spanish interpretation services available for Preschool and Kindergarten presentations
- Session 2: 6:00pm-6:25pm
- Spanish interpretation services available for 1st and 2nd Grade presentations
- Session 3: 6:30pm-6:55pm
- Spanish interpretation services available for the 3rd Grade presentation
*Classroom presentations are repeated for all sessions.
Field Day - Thursday, Sept. 24th (Grades 1-3)
Field Day for grades 1-3 is next Thursday, September 24th. Families are invited to come out and cheer on their students in a variety of games and activities. For safety reasons, the only children participating in the games are the Kings Park students. When you arrive, come to the blacktop behind the gym and sign in under the tent.

3-Hour Early Release Wednesday - September 30th (12:25pm dismissal for Grades K-3)
Kings Park’s first 3-hour Early Release Wednesday is Wednesday, September 30th, for students in grades K-3. Dismissal plans on record will be sent via an e-Notify email next week. Changes to dismissal plans must be received by Monday, September 28th. Due to student safety, we cannot accept changes after this deadline. Preschool follows a normal schedule that day.

Join Us for a Morning Meeting and AAP Information Session (K-3)
Join us for a Morning Meeting and to learn more about Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) in FCPS and at Kings Park. Morning Meeting is an engaging way to foster a strong sense of community and belonging while setting students up for social and academic success. Each morning, students and teachers gather in a circle for the first twenty minutes of the day to connect through a greeting, sharing, group activity and morning message.
Visit your child’s classroom to experience first-hand how Morning Meeting plays a critical role in your child’s day. Then, stay to hear about FCPS’s Advanced Academics Program with Kings Park’s Advanced Academics resource teacher, Jamie Mucciolo.

Connecting 1st Quarter Learning Across Specials
Throughout the year, students will see meaningful connections between what they learn in their classrooms and in their specials classes: Art, Music, PE, Library, STEAM, and Strategies Lab. By reinforcing grade level learning across different settings, specialists help students deepen their understanding and apply their knowledge in new and engaging ways.
