Join Mr. Pietzman at the Asha Jyothi 5K!
Lace up your running shoes and join our Greenbriar East community for the 18th Annual Asha Jyothi 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, September 20, at Fairfax Corner! Our very own principal, Mr. Pietzman, will be running this year, and we would love to have our community join him!

Asha Jyothi is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting education and health care. Through its school partnership program, 100% of registration fees are donated back to participating schools, with additional donations available as schools reach registration milestones.
Select Greenbriar East Elementary School during registration, and 100% of your registration fee will come back to GBE, even if you participate in the 1 Mile Fun Run!

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Information Meeting
Families are invited to attend an Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) information meeting led by Stephanie Gardner, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART), on Tuesday, September 22, at 6 p.m. in the GBE Cafeteria.
Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students, as well as the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

Connect and Learn at Our First Parent Café
Greenbriar East administration and Ms. Kwon, our family liaison, are partnering to offer Parent Cafés throughout the school year. These gatherings are an opportunity for families to connect, ask questions, and learn more about resources and support available at GBE.

GBE School Picture Day: Thursday, October 1
Thursday, October 1, is GBE School Picture Day for all students! Barksdale Photography will be at GBE to take student portraits.
Order forms will be sent home in your child’s Wednesday Folder closer to picture day. Additional order forms will be available in the front office. Families may also order school pictures online through Barksdale.

If you are ordering a picture package, your child should bring the completed payment envelope or online order receipt on picture day. Please do not send picture money to school before October 1.
Students who are absent on picture day or need their picture retaken will have another opportunity on Thursday, November 12.
Early Release Wednesdays: Child Care Plans
Our first Early Release Wednesday is October 21. To help us plan for students who will need child care, please update your family's plans in SIS ParentVUE. Parents and caregivers can use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet to indicate whether their child will need child care on the early release Wednesdays this school year.
- Open the SIS ParentVUE Account Access page and enter your username and password.
- Select ‘Online Packets’ at the top right corner. The ‘Select a Packet to Begin’ page will display.
- Select the Online Verification/Update packet.
If your plans change during the school year, please contact the school directly to update your child’s child care needs.
STEAM Lab Donations Needed
Our STEAM Lab is collecting everyday materials for upcoming hands-on learning activities! If you have any of the following items at home, we would appreciate your donations:
- Empty or full tissue boxes
- Egg cartons
- Toilet paper rolls
- Paper towel rolls
Donations can be sent to school with your student. Thank you for helping us provide creative, hands-on learning opportunities!

Family Life Education Preview and Opt-Out Information
Fairfax County Public Schools offers a comprehensive Family Life Education (FLE) program beginning in kindergarten. FLE includes instruction in human growth and development and social and emotional health. The program helps students develop knowledge and skills to make healthy and responsible decisions related to relationships and their physical, emotional, and social health.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review FLE materials. Families can access FLE lessons in Schoology using their SIS username and password.
Parents and guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out will receive alternative health instruction. To opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, please complete the digital opt-out form in the Parent Digital Consent (PDC) system. If you cannot access the digital form, contact the office to request a printed form.
Reporting Discrimination or Harassment
FCPS is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all races, national origins, and ethnicities. Individuals experiencing harassment or discrimination should report the incident as soon as possible.
Review and Sign the SR&R by September 30
The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. This year’s SR&R includes new Universal Grade Matrices, which are at-a-glance charts that make it easier for families to see behavior expectations and school responses for grades K-3, 4-8, and 9-12.
Families, please review the SR&R and discuss these expectations with your child. Be sure to sign the SR&R acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or signing and returning the Signature Sheet to your child’s school.

Free Street Hockey Clinics
Looking for a fun way to get active this fall? Free Street Caps hockey clinics are coming to the Lake Fairfax Park rink! Students are invited to participate and learn more about street hockey.
