Hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as “an invaluable cinematic portrait,” TUTU won the Berlinale ’s Peace Film Prize and most recently screened at the BFI London Film Festival, where Pollard also presided over the official competition jury. A galvanizing portrait of the apartheid-battling, Nobel Peace Prize-winning leader, the film examines Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s faith, contradictions, and enduring commitment to justice. Tutu was also deeply connected to Boston, where he delivered speeches and held small-group discussions, including at the historic Old South Church, and officiated the wedding of a close friend in Hingham.

Pollard also has deep creative ties to Boston: he directed BILL RUSSELL: LEGEND, the two-part Netflix documentary about the Boston Celtics icon’s off-court dedication to civil rights, and executive produced the PBS documentary A BOSTON (R)EVOLUTION, which examined the city’s changing demographics through the lens of the 2021 mayoral election. He also served as a consulting producer on last year’s THIS IS NOT A DRILL, winner of the Audience Award at the 2025 GlobeDocs Film Festival.

Following the Opening Night Reception and 7pm screening of TUTU, Pollard will be joined onstage by Boston Globe Media CEO Linda Henry for a discussion about the film and Tutu’s enduring legacy.

GlobeDocs Presents: Living in Pryde

Wednesday, October 7 | 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Virtual

Living in Pryde is a short documentary that follows residents of The Pryde—New England’s first LGBTQ+ welcoming, affordable senior housing community.

At a time when LGBTQ+ rights face renewed attack, the film explores the experiences of a generation that came of age with few legal protections against harassment or discrimination. Residents tap into a lifetime of resilience to meet the current political moment as they reflect on surviving the AIDS crisis, fighting for same-sex marriage and coming out as transgender.

Join Podcast Host and Senior Audio Producer, Jazmin Aguilera, in a virtual discussion with Senior Digital Video Producer at GBH News, Rob Tokanel, Senior Digital Video Producer at GBH News, Emily Judem, and Digital Video Producer/Editor at GBH News, Jack Doyle.
