Scope and Overview
Since its launch in 2013, the OpenSky Network has quickly evolved into a large-scale air traffic control data collection and sharing platform. With more than 7,000 sensors registered across the globe and more than 90,000 users, the OpenSky Network is contributing towards the vision of a more efficient, secure, and reliable operation of the airspace by providing the public with open access to air traffic control data.
Following the successful events of previous years, we are proud to announce the 14th OpenSky Symposium. The two-day event will be hosted by CRIDA at its campus in Madrid in October 2026. Since its eighth iteration, the Symposium has also been supported by the Performance Review Commission (PRC) of EUROCONTROL. The PRC aims to establish an Open Performance Data platform in cooperation with the OpenSky Network and its community, and will support the Symposium and some of its most relevant submissions. The programme continues to address the PRC research challenges discussed at previous Symposia, including Safety (airspace complexity and flight interactions or separation), Environment (including the estimation of fuel burn and emissions), and System and Network Performance (including traffic-flow interdependencies).
The event is aimed at anyone interested in data-based aviation research and the wider community concerned with ADS-B and other forms of aviation data collection. The Symposium will serve as a forum for discussing new ideas, the network itself, and research activities involving OpenSky. In previous years, the Symposium has attracted a diverse audience from research, public authorities, and industry.
New this year, the programme also considers talks by relevant industry and community contributors without requiring a full research paper.
The OpenSky Symposium is fundamentally an in-person event intended to foster creative exchanges and discussions. There will be many opportunities to meet other members of the community during the social activities surrounding the Symposium programme.
